Contents

The Game Design Study Programme consists of:

* Basic Audiovisual studies

* Professional study modules

* Practical learning

* Final assessment and competence tests

 

Target group

Persons interested in game development who have a strong ambition to get into the gaming industry.

A working knowledge of English and considerable gaming experience are basic requirements, as well as visual competency and the ability to visualize ideas by drawing.

General talent in visual arts is considered an advantage.

 

Detailed contents:

* Cultural history and future visions of computer games

* Texturing and other 2D skills

* 3D production

* Character animation

* Creation of virtual and game environments

* Content production and user interfaces

* Virtual experience technology

 

Implementation

The Game Development Study Programme is carried out as full-time, day-time, studies.

 

Expenses

Studies are free of charge for students.

Students can apply for a student loan, housing supplement, and study grant from KELA.

 

Applying

Applying takes place through the joint application system.

Each year:

50 applicants are chosen to take the interview and aptitude test.

17 applicants are chosen to study in the Game Development Study Programme.

 

Developing Game Development Education in North Karelia (PEKES)

Pekes is a European Social Fund (ESF), State Provincial Office of Eastern Finland (ISLH), and North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium (PKKY) funded project, and is a part of the Objective 1 -programme of Eastern Finland. The project is administered by North Karelia College Outokumpu and its time of operation is 2005-2006.

The project has created a curriculum for game development education, as well as obtained up-to-date knowledge for use in the Game Development Study Program of North Karelia College Outokumpu. During its operational time the project has established connections with the enterprises, polytechnics, and research institutes of the gaming industry, as well as participated in national and international co-operation networks.

The project will offer teachers and other staff supplementary education, participate in national and international seminars of the industry, improve game development skills and promote entrepreneurship in the gaming industry.
